World Championship Soccer II (Beta) is an unreleased Sega Genesis game, developed by Sega. It exists as a prototype from the console's later years, a time when developers were pushing the hardware to its limits with more ambitious sports titles.
You control a full soccer team, directing passes, setting up shots, and organizing defensive formations. The main objective is to outscore your opponent within the match time limit. Signature mechanics include a through-pass system for breaking defensive lines and a sliding tackle that, while effective, can easily result in a foul if mistimed. The pacing is quick, with matches that feel fluid and responsive despite the occasional graphical glitch. It feels like a genuine, almost complete Genesis soccer game that just never made it to the shelf.
