Play World Ice Hockey (Japan) Online
Pick USSR, USA, or Japan, then shove pixelated players around the ice—somehow those blurry sprites make perfect sense when you’re scrambling for a last-minute goal.
World Ice Hockey was a 1991 Game Boy release from Nintendo, part of a wave of early handheld sports titles that tried to capture the feel of arcade competition in your pocket. It arrived before many developers had fully figured out how to translate fast team sports onto the small monochrome screen, but it made a solid attempt with three national teams to choose from: the USSR, the USA, or Japan.
You control all the players on your six person team, passing the puck with the A button and checking opponents with B. The main goal is simple: outscore the other team within three periods. Signature mechanics include manual goalie control during defensive moments and power plays that occur after penalties. The game moves quickly, with a noticeable challenge in maintaining puck possession against aggressive AI. It feels scrappy and immediate, like a condensed version of hockey’s chaos.
