X-Men: Reign of Apocalypse came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2001, published by Activision. It was one of those side-scrolling beat 'em ups that felt right at home on the handheld, a familiar genre given a mutant twist during the GBA's early years.
You control one of four X-Men, like Wolverine or Storm, and fight through screen after screen of enemies. The goal is to stop Apocalypse, punching and using special mutant powers to clear each area. You can switch characters on the fly during gameplay, which helps when you need a different attack style or if someone's health gets low. The pacing is fast, and some later sections get pretty tough, demanding careful use of your abilities. It feels straightforward and satisfying, especially when you pull off a screen-clearing super move.
