Lead your warlord and move armies across a turn-based map, engage in battles, manage resources, and strategize to unify China in Yokoyama Mitsuteru Sangokushi on SNES.
Yokoyama Mitsuteru Sangokushi came out on the Super Nintendo in 1993, published by Angel, a division of Bandai. It was one of many strategy titles on the system that tried to translate the sprawling Romance of the Three Kingdoms epic into something more approachable, using the recognizable character designs from Mitsuteru Yokoyama's manga. You don't see many games like this anymore, where the focus is purely on moving little armies across a map of China.
You control a chosen warlord and direct their forces across a turn-based strategic map, with the main objective being the unification of the country under your rule. The signature mechanics involve moving your units, represented by character portraits, into adjacent territories to engage in automatic combat; you manage resources like gold and food to keep your armies supplied and your cities growing. The pacing is deliberate, almost slow, forcing you to think several moves ahead as you negotiate alliances or betray your neighbors. It feels like playing a very condensed, personality-driven board game where one wrong move can undo hours of careful planning.
