Yu Yu Hakusho: Spirit Detective came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2003, developed by Sensory Sweep and published by Atari. It was one of many anime adaptations on the system, arriving when portable RPGs were gaining complexity but still relied on straightforward, mission based structures. The game follows the early arcs of the series, putting you in the shoes of Yusuke Urameshi after his death and return as a Spirit Detective.
You control Yusuke through side scrolling environments, moving screen by screen to investigate disturbances, talk with characters, and engage in turn based combat against various demons. Your main goal is to complete cases by gathering clues and defeating bosses, using a mix of physical attacks and spirit energy techniques that you can upgrade as you progress. The pacing is methodical, with some backtracking and occasional difficulty spikes in boss fights.
