Yu Yu Hakusho - Spirit Detective is one of those GBA RPGs that feels like a love letter to fans of the anime. You start off as Yusuke, running around solving cases and punching demons in classic turn-based battles. The sprites are small but surprisingly detailed, and the combat has that satisfying weight when you land a spirit gun blast.
What I didn’t expect was how much dialogue there is. It’s not just fights—you’ll spend a lot of time talking to characters from the show, and some of the side quests actually flesh out the world in ways the anime didn’t. The downside? The random encounters can get old fast if you’re just trying to move the story along.
Still, if you grew up with Yu Yu Hakusho, this game nails the vibe. It’s rough around the edges, but it’s got heart.
