Zoids Legacy came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2004, developed by Atelier Double. It was part of that wave of mech games on the handheld, a time when you could find a lot of different takes on building and fighting with giant robots. This one stood out for its sheer scope, letting you dig into a massive roster of machines from across the Zoids franchise.
You control a pilot who assembles a team of Zoids, managing them through turn based battles on grid based maps. The main goal is to progress through a story driven campaign, defeating enemy squads and recruiting new pilots and their machines. Key mechanics include customizing your Zoids by swapping parts and weapons between them, and the ability to combine certain units to form more powerful hybrids. The pacing is methodical, with a difficulty that encourages careful planning over brute force. It feels like running a garage where every salvaged part could be the key to your next victory.
