Play Zombie Nation Online
Play as a giant floating samurai head shooting lasers from your eyes to save America from zombie aliens. Yes, really.
Zombie Nation for the NES came out in 1990 from a company called KAZe. It was one of those weird, late-era NES games that felt like it came from another planet entirely, not fitting neatly into any popular genre of the time. You don't see many games where you play as a disembodied, angry deity's head.
You control the floating head of a deity named Maboroshi, and you shoot eye lasers at everything. Your goal is to fly from left to right across a ruined America, destroying zombie alien invaders and their bizarre bosses. The main mechanics are your primary laser shot, a screen-clearing bomb attack you can use sparingly, and the ability to possess certain enemy creatures to use their bodies as temporary weapons or shields. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty is unforgiving, with strange hitboxes and overwhelming enemy patterns. It feels like a chaotic, surreal trip through a developer's strange dream.
