Play Zone of the Enders - The Fist of Mars (U)(Mode7) Online
You pilot mechs in tight city battles, weighing riskier shots against safer ones—mess up and you’ll demolish half the map. The grid-based tactics feel surprisingly good with those chunky combat animations.

Zone of the Enders: The Fist of Mars is one of those weird little GBA spinoffs that somehow works. It’s not a straight-up action game like the main series—instead, it’s a tactical RPG with grid-based battles, which sounds like an odd fit for mechs, but the combat animations still nail that fast, weighty Zone of the Enders feel.
You start off as this rookie pilot caught in a rebellion, and the first few missions throw you into cramped city maps where positioning actually matters. The targeting system’s got this cool risk-reward mechanic where you can gamble for better accuracy or play it safe. Took me a couple tries to stop blowing up half the buildings by accident.
It’s definitely rough around the edges (the translation’s a bit stiff, and the sprites are tiny), but if you ever wanted a mech game that makes you think instead of just button-mashing, this one’s a neat surprise. The story even ties back into the main series in ways I didn’t expect.
