Game Overview
3D World Soccer on the Amiga was one of those games that made you feel like you were playing something ahead of its time—even if the digitized sprites looked a little janky by today’s standards. The 3D pitch actually worked, though, and controlling any outfield player (sorry, no goalkeepers) gave it a chaotic, almost playground-football feel.
What really stood out was the way you’d press the fire button to bring up an action icon—pass, shoot, tackle—and then watch your player automatically chase down the ball or line up a shot. It sounds clunky, but there was something satisfying about nailing a slide tackle just as the opponent thought they’d gotten past you. The camera zoomed in and out depending on how far the ball traveled, which kept things dynamic, even if it occasionally left you squinting at tiny players.
No multiplayer, sadly, but the tournament mode was solid, and being able to save mid-competition was a lifesaver. Halftime flipped the camera so you always attacked the same goal in the second half—a small touch that kept the flow intuitive. If you could look past the stiff animations, it was weirdly addictive.
