Game Overview

3D World Soccer on the Amiga was one of those games that felt ahead of its time—digitized sprites running around a 3D pitch, which was pretty wild back then. You control any outfield player (sorry, no goalkeeping) and the camera loosely follows the ball, zooming in and out depending on how far it’s kicked. The controls take a second to get used to—you move freely until you hit the fire button, then an icon pops up to pick your move: pass, shoot, or slide tackle. Once you choose, your player does the rest, like homing in on an opponent for a tackle automatically.

It’s single-player only, with options for quick matches, knockout tournaments, or full championships. At halftime, the camera flips so you’re always attacking the right goal, which is a nice touch. And yeah, you can save mid-tournament, because losing a long run to a power cut was the worst. The whole thing’s a little janky by today’s standards, but back then, it felt like the future of soccer games.
