64th Street: A Detective Story came out in arcades in 1991, developed and published by Jaleco. It was part of that wave of side-scrolling beat 'em ups that filled arcades in the late 80s and early 90s, sitting alongside games like Final Fight and Streets of Rage, though it never quite reached the same level of recognition.

You control one of two detectives, a veteran or his younger partner, as you fight through urban environments to rescue a kidnapped girl. The gameplay involves moving from left to right, punching and kicking thugs, and using weapons like pipes and knives that enemies drop when defeated. You can also perform a running attack and a special move that damages all on-screen enemies at the cost of some health. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty is typical for the genre, with plenty of enemies swarming you from both sides. It feels like a straightforward, sometimes messy brawler where you're constantly reacting to whatever gets thrown at you.
