I picked up The Adventures of Rad Gravity on the NES back in 1990, a game published by Interplay Entertainment. It was one of those late-era NES titles that felt a bit more ambitious, trying to push the hardware with its sci-fi theme and non-linear structure. It didn't have the polish of a first-party Nintendo game, but it had a strange charm and a lot of ideas crammed into the cartridge.
You control Rad Gravity, an interstellar agent hopping between planets to stop a mad scientist. The main goal is to explore each world screen by screen, gathering keycards to unlock new areas while battling aliens and avoiding environmental hazards. You use a variety of weapons, like a standard blaster and a bouncing grenade, and you often have to solve simple puzzles or find hidden switches to progress. The pacing is uneven, and some sections are brutally difficult due to tricky platforming and cheap enemy placements. Playing it feels like wrestling with a stubborn, inventive mess that occasionally surprises you with a clever moment.
