I picked up Akira_Disk2 on the Amiga back in 1994, a game published by International Computer Entertainment Ltd. It was a time when side-scrolling action games were common, and this one stood out with its mix of racing and platforming, based on the Akira manga and anime. The game didn't try to reinvent the wheel, but it offered a solid, challenging experience that felt right at home on the platform.
You control Kaneda on his motorcycle, racing through chaotic city streets while avoiding roadblocks, gaps, and enemies who throw bombs at you. To clear obstacles, you collect grenades from traffic cones scattered along the route. In between the racing sections, the game shifts to platforming stages where you defeat enemies to fill a progress meter; you also have to manage your fuel supply to avoid running out mid-stage. The pacing is fast and demanding, with little room for error, and playing it feels like a tense, high-speed struggle for survival.
