Game Overview

Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle (or Tenkuu Majou if you're feeling fancy) is one of those Genesis games that sticks with you—whether you love it or want to chuck your controller at the wall. It's got that classic SEGA weirdness: floating islands, enemies that look like rejected Muppets, and boss fights where you literally play rock-paper-scissors to win. No, really.

You'll spend most of your time jumping between clouds (which, by the way, vanish if you stand on them too long—rude) and punching your way through levels that feel like they were designed by someone who had too much caffeine. The controls are stiff by today's standards, and yeah, you'll die a lot, but there's something oddly charming about its janky little world. Also, collecting cash just to buy a motorcycle or helicopter feels oddly satisfying, even if you'll probably crash it immediately.

It's not the smoothest platformer out there, but if you miss that era when games were equal parts creative and frustrating, this one's a trip down memory lane. Just don't say I didn't warn you about the instant-death spikes everywhere.
