Alex Kidd in High-Tech World came out for the Sega Master System in 1987, developed and published by Sega. It was one of those later SMS titles that tried to do something a little different, moving away from the straightforward platforming of the original Miracle World. You control Alex Kidd, navigating through a series of interconnected rooms in a large castle. Your main goal is to find pieces of a map that lead to a hidden treasure, but the real challenge is figuring out what to do next. Instead of just jumping on enemies, you spend a lot of time talking to NPCs, buying items from shops, and using a telephone to call for hints (which sometimes just tell you to check the manual). The pacing is slow and deliberate, almost puzzle-heavy, and it can feel confusing if you don't take notes. It's a strange mix of exploration and frustration that makes every small discovery feel earned.
