This is the Master System version of Sonic 2, which honestly feels like its own weird little game compared to the Genesis one. You still play as Sonic (or Tails if you're feeling chaotic), bouncing off badniks and collecting rings, but the levels are completely different—some are fun, others feel kinda cramped. The music slaps though, especially the underground zone theme.

Robotnik's up to his usual nonsense, turning animals into robots, so you gotta speed through loops, avoid spike traps, and somehow not lose all your rings when you bump into crabs. Pro tip: the spin dash is your best friend here. It takes a second to get used to the slower pace, but once you do, it's got that classic Sonic charm.

Just don't expect it to play like the 16-bit version—this one's got its own vibe.
