Game Overview

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 came out for the Sega Genesis in 1992, developed by Sega Technical Institute. It was one of those games that felt like a real step up from the first one, especially if you were playing on the Genesis at the time. The cartridge had a certain presence, and it was clear they were pushing the hardware further.

You control Sonic, and this time his fox friend Tails can join you, either controlled by a second player or by the computer. The main goal is still to stop Dr. Robotnik, racing through levels to reach the end, but the scale feels bigger. The spin dash is a huge addition; you can rev up on the spot and blast off without needing a running start. You're collecting rings, hunting for Chaos Emeralds by running through special stages, and trying to survive levels that throw more at you, like the rising lava in Hill Top or the crushing pistons in Metropolis Zone. The pacing is fast, and some later zones really test your reflexes. It just feels good to move through those stages, building speed and pulling off clean runs.
