Game Overview
If you liked the first Sonic Rivals, this one keeps the same fast-paced 2D-in-3D racing but throws in a few extras. You’re still dashing through loops and grabbing power-ups to mess with your rival—except now there’s Tails, Espio, and Rouge joining the crew, which makes character choices way more interesting (I kept switching between Shadow and Espio for no good reason).
The boss fights feel familiar—you’ve gotta take them down before your opponent does—but the real fun kicks in with the new multiplayer modes. Capture the Chao is chaotic in the best way, and King of the Hill actually had me yelling at my PSP. Also, Freeplay mode is a nice break when you just want to explore stages without the pressure.
It’s not a huge leap from the first game, but the extra characters and modes give it enough spice to feel fresh. Just don’t expect Silver to suddenly become less weird to control.
