Game Overview
So Sonic Rivals is basically Sonic but with a racing twist—you’re not just speeding through levels, you’re trying to beat another character to the finish. The 2.5D stages feel familiar, but that head-to-head pressure changes everything. I kept messing up jumps because I was too busy checking where Shadow was behind me.
You’ve got five characters to pick from (Sonic and Knuckles are classics, but Silver’s weird telekinesis thing is fun to mess with). Each zone has two acts and a boss fight, but here’s the catch: even if you land the final hit, you lose if the other guy got there first. Boss battles turn into this weird mix of fighting and racing—kinda stressful, but in a good way.
There’s a bunch of modes beyond the story, like challenges and cups, plus local wireless races if you’ve got friends with a PSP. The power-ups add some chaos—nothing like slamming into Metal Sonic with a well-timed attack. And yeah, there’s a card-collecting thing, but honestly, I just liked shoving rivals off cliffs mid-race.
It’s not perfect, but it’s way more intense than your average Sonic game.
