Game Overview

Sonic Rivals came out on the PlayStation Portable in 2006, developed by Backbone Entertainment and published by Sega. It was one of the few Sonic games made specifically for the PSP, arriving at a time when handhelds were really pushing 3D graphics and competitive multiplayer on the go.

You control Sonic, Shadow, Silver, or Knuckles in a series of one-on-one races across themed zones. The goal is to reach the end of each stage before your rival, using speed, power-ups, and attacks to slow them down. Signature mechanics include using cards to unlock characters and stages, and transforming into Super forms after collecting enough rings. The pacing is fast and demanding, with tight corners and aggressive AI keeping every race tense. It feels like a high-speed duel where every mistake costs you the lead.
