Game Overview

Shinobi on the Sega Master System is one of those games that makes you feel like a total badass—until you get swarmed by enemies and realize how fragile ninjas actually are. You play as Joe Musashi, tossing shurikens, kicking goons in the face, and occasionally unleashing screen-clearing ninja magic when things get too chaotic. The levels are split into bite-sized chunks, which is nice because you’ll need every checkpoint you can get.

The hostages you’re rescuing are always guarded by these huge dudes who chuck swords at you like they’re playing darts, and don’t even get me started on the guys with guns. Boss fights are wild—one minute you’re dodging a helicopter’s missiles, the next you’re squaring off against a giant who looks like he bench-presses boulders for fun. It’s tough, but pulling off a perfect run feels amazing.
