Game Overview

Shinobi on MS-DOS came out in 1989 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, a port of Sega's arcade hit. It was a time when side-scrolling action games were everywhere, and this one stood out with its ninja theme and methodical pace. You played as Joe Musashi, a modern ninja out to rescue kidnapped children from a criminal syndicate.

You control Joe through a series of side-scrolling stages, clearing each screen of enemies before moving forward. Your main tools are a limited supply of shurikens for ranged attacks and a sword for close quarters; you also have a one-time screen-clearing magic spell per stage for emergencies. The objective is straightforward: defeat all enemies, avoid their projectiles, and sometimes rescue hostages who appear tied up in the background. The game is known for its deliberate pacing and high difficulty, especially during boss fights that demand precise timing. It feels tense and rewarding when you finally beat a stage that took multiple attempts.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
