Alien 3 on the Game Boy came out in 1993, published by LJN and developed by Probe Software. It was a time when licensed games were everywhere, and this one tried to capture the grim atmosphere of the film on a handheld that was all about shades of green and black. You play as Ellen Ripley, crash-landed on a prison planet with a Xenomorph already on the loose.

You control Ripley through a side-scrolling facility, moving screen by screen to rescue colonists and find keycards to unlock new areas. Your main goal is to destroy the alien egg chambers while surviving attacks from facehuggers and adult Xenomorphs that drop from ceilings or burst from walls. Ammo for your pulse rifle and flamethrower is scarce, forcing you to rely on careful timing and melee attacks with a pipe. The pacing is tense and deliberate, with a high difficulty that punishes rushed movement. It feels like a desperate, lonely fight for survival where every sound from the tinny speaker puts you on edge.
