Game Overview

Playing Alien 3 on the Master System feels like being thrown into a dimly lit prison with nothing but a motion tracker and a bad feeling. You’re Ripley, but instead of blasting through aliens like in the arcade versions, you’re sneaking around, handing flamethrowers to panicked prisoners, and praying you don’t hear that awful skittering noise behind you. The top-down view makes everything feel even tighter—those corridors are way too narrow when something’s chasing you.

It’s janky in that classic 8-bit way, but the tension works. The soundtrack’s just a few creepy bleeps and bloops, but somehow it makes your palms sweat. And yeah, the SNES version looks nicer, but this one’s got its own weird charm—like figuring out which doors actually open or realizing too late that you just armed a prisoner who immediately gets facehugged. Nostalgia helps, but even without it, there’s something grimly satisfying about barely surviving each level.

Just keep a spare controller handy. You might crush this one in frustration when a xenomorph pops out of a vent you swore was safe.
