Alien 3 for the Game Boy came out in 1993, developed by Probe Software and published by LJN. It was one of the many licensed games of the era, trying to capture the grim atmosphere of the film on a handheld screen. The hardware limitations meant a lot of imagination was required, but the mood came through in its own stark way.

You play as Ellen Ripley, moving screen by screen through the prison facility to rescue survivors and destroy the alien eggs. You use a limited supply of weapons, like a pulse rifle and flamethrower, to fend off facehuggers and adult xenomorphs that appear suddenly from ceilings and corridors. The game is methodical and often unforgiving; ammo is scarce, and health doesn’t last long. It feels tense and isolating, like you’re always one wrong turn from a game over screen.
