Alien Breed II: The Horror Continues is basically Gauntlet with a sci-fi horror twist—if Gauntlet had you crawling through dimly lit corridors while aliens burst out of the walls. You pick one of four soldiers (I always went with the heavy weapons guy) and fight through three massive towers crawling with creatures. The civilian zone feels eerily quiet at first, until some slimy thing drops from the ceiling.

What I love is how tense it gets when you’re low on ammo, scrambling to find a terminal to trade credits for weapons. Keys are rare, so you end up backtracking, wondering if that locked room had health packs or just another swarm of aliens. The outdoor sections break up the claustrophobia with wide-open spaces—which sounds nice until you realize there’s nowhere to hide.

Playing co-op is chaos in the best way. One of you inevitably hoards all the grenades while the other frantically tries not to get cornered. The Amiga’s chunky pixel art somehow makes the aliens even creepier. Just watch out for the ones that explode.
