Game Overview

Arkanoid 2, released in 1987 by Taito Corporation and playable today through MAME, is a direct sequel to the original brick-breaking arcade hit. It arrived during a period when arcades were still dominant, and simple, addictive mechanics ruled. The game doesn't try to reinvent the formula; it just gives you more of what worked, with a fresh set of levels and a few new surprises to discover.

You control a small paddle, called the Vaus, at the bottom of the screen, using it to bounce a ball upward to destroy all the bricks above. The main objective is to clear each screen of bricks to advance, while preventing the ball from falling past your paddle. Signature mechanics include catching colored capsules that drop from broken bricks, which grant power-ups like expanding your paddle, multiplying your balls, or firing lasers to clear bricks directly. The pacing is relentless; the ball speeds up, and some bricks require multiple hits or move in tricky patterns. It feels like a tense, rhythmic battle against gravity and your own reflexes.
