Asterix and the Great Rescue came out for the Sega Genesis in 1993, developed by Sega and published by Sega themselves. You control either Asterix or Obelix, each with their own strengths, as you move screen by screen through levels filled with Roman soldiers and environmental hazards. Your main goal is to rescue the druid Getafix, who has been kidnapped, by fighting through legions of enemies and avoiding traps like spikes and falling rocks. You punch and throw enemies, sometimes sending them flying off the edge of the screen, and you hunt for hidden potions that restore health or grant temporary power-ups. The game moves at a brisk pace, and the difficulty can spike in later stages with more aggressive enemy placements. It feels like a straightforward, energetic brawler that captures the humor and action of the comics.
