I picked up Atomic Punk on my Game Boy back in 1990, a Hudson Soft release that felt right at home among the portable puzzle and action titles of the era. It was essentially a solo version of Bomberman, stripped down for the small screen but still packing that familiar, frantic energy. You didn't need a link cable to get into trouble here; the challenge was all yours to handle.

You control a lone bomber making your way through maze-like stages, one screen at a time. The goal is simple: blow up all the enemies and find the exit before the timer runs out. Your main tools are the bombs you place, which explode in a cross-shaped pattern, and you have to carefully avoid the blasts yourself. Power-ups hidden in soft blocks can extend your bomb range or let you drop more at once, which becomes essential in later, more cramped levels. The pacing is quick, and the difficulty ramps up steadily as enemies get faster and layouts more complex. It feels tense and satisfying when you clear a tricky room without getting caught in your own explosion.
