Backtrack is this weird little GBA gem where you play as Jim Track, a spy who’s basically got the worst assignment ever: busting people out of a moon base run by some villain named Domingoaniax. Sounds simple, right? Except the place is crawling with killer robots, and you’ve got to sneak, shoot, and occasionally backtrack (ha) through these maze-like levels to pull it off.
The controls take a second to click—you’ve got this sort of tank-like movement where you pivot instead of turning smoothly—but once it does, weaving through laser grids and dodging patrols feels oddly satisfying. And yeah, you’ll die a lot. Those robots don’t mess around.
It’s got that early 2000s vibe where the devs clearly just ran with a bizarre concept and made it work. Worth a shot if you like your action games with a side of janky charm.
