Batman: Return of the Joker on Game Boy is one of those classic platformers where you feel like the Dark Knight—swinging across gaps with the grappling hook, tossing batarangs (sparingly, because ammo’s tight), and punching your way through Joker’s goons. The first three levels—sewers, machine shop, and a speeding train—can be tackled in any order, which is nice when you’re stuck on one and need a change of scenery.
What I like is how each stage forces you to mix up your approach. Some enemies just eat batarangs for breakfast, so you’ve gotta get up close. Others? Better keep your distance. The wall jump is a lifesaver in tight spots, though good luck nailing it perfectly every time. And those boss fights? Each one’s got a trick—figure it out, or enjoy getting wrecked a few times first.
It’s not the deepest Batman game, but for a Game Boy cart, it nails the vibe. Just don’t expect to breeze through it in one sitting.
