Battle Master is one of those old-school Sega Genesis games that feels like it should’ve been way more popular. You pick a race—Humans, Orcs, Dwarves, or Elves—and immediately realize each one plays wildly different. Orcs hit hard but can’t dodge for crap, while Elves are glass cannons who need their squad to survive. Then it’s just you, your team, and a brutal fantasy world full of ambushes and traps that’ll wipe you out if you rush in blindly.
It’s not quite an RPG, not quite a tactics game—more like leading a chaotic medieval brawl where formations actually matter. The leader does most of the fighting directly (swing a sword, fire an arrow), but you’ve got this clunky-but-useful menu for rallying troops or buying gear from sketchy merchants. And yeah, you’ll die. A lot. The "Safe Pass" option starts looking real tempting after the third time a hidden spike pit ruins your best fighter.
If you’ve played Rage of Mages, the vibe’s kinda similar, but Battle Master’s way more about frantic, messy battles than careful strategy. Just don’t expect any hand-holding.
