Game Overview

Battle Master - Kyuukyoku no Senshi-tachi is one of those SNES fighters that somehow flew under the radar, which is a shame because it's pure chaotic fun. You pick from these wild anime-style warriors—some swing swords twice their size, others just straight-up smash you with a hammer—and then it's all about timing those ridiculous special moves. The first time I pulled off the ninja's tornado slash and saw the whole screen fill with spinning blades, I knew this wasn't your typical fighting game.

The controls feel tight once you get the hang of them, though good luck figuring out some of the move inputs without trial and error (classic '90s fighting game logic). My personal favorite is the samurai girl who does this leaping slash—it's way overpowered if you spam it, but who cares when it looks this cool? Matches are fast, loud, and occasionally glitchy in that charming retro way. If you dig pixel art with exaggerated attack animations and don't mind a little jank, this one's a riot.

Honestly, it's the kind of game you break out when friends are over for some button-mashing nostalgia. Just try not to get too competitive when someone discovers the cheap moves first.
