Game Overview

Kick Master came out in 1992 for the NES, developed by KID. It was a late release for the system, a time when many developers were already moving on to the 16-bit generation, but it offered a solid, action-focused experience that felt right at home on the console. You play as a young martial artist named Thonolan, tasked with rescuing Princess Silphee from the demon Belzed.

You control Thonolan through side-scrolling stages, clearing each screen of enemies before you can proceed. Your primary weapon is your feet; you kick your way through skeletons, bats, and other monsters. The real hook is the progression system: defeating enemies earns you experience points, and leveling up unlocks an extensive list of new kick techniques, from spinning attacks to projectiles. The pacing is methodical, and the difficulty is consistent, demanding that you master your growing arsenal. It feels rewarding to build your character from a basic fighter into a whirlwind of destruction.
