Play Battle Master on Msdos Online
Tiny knights and archers clash on a grid—dragons show up to wreck your plans, and every move feels like a gamble. Simple sprites, brutal consequences.

Battle Master was released in 1991 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series by Mirrorsoft. It arrived during a period when strategy games were beginning to find a dedicated audience on personal computers, offering a turn-based experience that felt distinct from the arcade action or text adventures more common at the time. The game presented a straightforward fantasy conflict without the elaborate backstories or complex lore that would later become standard.
You command a small party of fantasy units, including knights, archers, and wizards, moving them across a grid-based battlefield against an opposing force. The main objective is to eliminate all enemy units or achieve specific scenario goals. Signature mechanics include screen-by-screen exploration of the battlefield, direct unit-on-unit combat resolved through simple dice rolls, and the occasional appearance of a powerful dragon that disrupts all plans. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can be punishing, as a single bad engagement can quickly lead to a loss. It feels like a tense, calculated risk with every command you issue.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
