BattleTanx: Global Assault came out on the Nintendo 64 in 1999, developed by 3DO. It was part of that wave of post-apocalyptic vehicle combat games that felt right at home on the N64, offering something a little different from the usual platformers and racers of the time.

You control a tank commander navigating through destroyed urban environments, fighting rival factions and rescuing survivors. Your main goal is to reclaim territory and rebuild civilization, screen by screen, while fending off attacks from enemy tanks and other hazards. Signature mechanics include using a variety of special weapons, like homing missiles and nukes, and managing limited ammunition and armor repairs. The pacing is fast and often unforgiving, with enemies swarming from all directions. It feels raw and explosive, especially when you pull off a well-timed shot that clears the street.
