Big Nose Freaks Out (Unl) is one of those NES games that makes you go, "Wait, this was actually released?" You play as Big Nose—a guy whose schnoz is basically the main character—and jump, punch, and occasionally faceplant your way through levels that feel like someone threw a bunch of random objects into a blender. Walking tomatoes? Check. Floating lightbulbs with faces? Of course. The whole thing has this weird, fever-dream energy where you’re never quite sure what’ll pop up next.
The controls are a little stiff (it’s an unlicensed NES game, after all), but that almost adds to the charm. You’ll miss jumps, get hit by enemies you swear you dodged, and probably laugh at how ridiculous some of the boss fights are. The colors are weirdly vibrant for an NES title, too—like someone cranked the saturation to max and called it a day.
If you’re into retro games that don’t take themselves seriously, this one’s a trip. Just don’t expect it to play like a polished Nintendo title—it’s more of a "what were they thinking?" kind of experience. And honestly, that’s why I keep coming back to it.
