Play Big Nose Freaks Out Online
Caveman Big Nose chases a thief across wild prehistoric levels, whacking enemies with his club and uncovering secrets. Two-player modes add chaotic fun.
Big Nose Freaks Out came out for the NES in 1992, developed by Camelot Software Planning. It was one of those late-era platformers that tried to stand out with a goofy premise and some extra features, back when the 16-bit consoles were already taking over. You play as Big Nose, a caveman with, well, a big nose, and your goal is to recover stolen bones from a thief across a bunch of side-scrolling prehistoric stages.
You control Big Nose directly, running and jumping through levels filled with dinosaurs and other primitive enemies, mostly whacking them with your club. The main objective is to collect all the stolen bones in each stage before moving on, but there's also an emphasis on exploration; you break open eggs and rocks to find power-ups, extra lives, or even vehicle sections where you ride a pterodactyl. The game can be pretty unforgiving, with precise platforming and enemies that come at you from all directions. It feels chaotic and a little rough around the edges, but there's a strange charm in its clunky, energetic action.
