Blue Max throws you right into the cockpit of a WWI biplane—the kind where you can practically feel the wind in your face and hear the engine sputter. You’ve got classics like the Fokker and Sopwith to pick from, and they all handle differently, which makes choosing one feel like a real decision. At first, I kept crashing on takeoff because, well, these things are not easy to fly.

The split-screen mode is a blast if you’ve got a buddy—nothing like trying to shoot each other down while also avoiding trees. But the weirdest (and coolest) thing? You can suddenly freeze the action and turn the whole dogfight into a turn-based strategy game on a hex grid, with the 3D view still there as a reference. It’s bizarre, but it works. Missions range from straight-up aerial duels to bombing runs where you actually have to line up your shots. Just don’t expect modern flight sim realism—this is pure, janky Amiga charm.
