Boktai 2: Solar Boy Django came out on the Game Boy Advance in 2004, developed by Konami. It was part of that era where handheld games tried new things, like using hardware in unexpected ways. You play as Django, a solar boy hunting vampires in a world that blends wild west and gothic horror.
You control Django through screen by screen exploration, using a solar gun that charges in real sunlight thanks to the cartridge’s built in light sensor. Combat involves timing your shots, sneaking up on enemies, and managing your exposure to both light and shadow. The main goal is to cleanse dungeons of undead, but you also take on the role of Sabata, an older vampire hunter with his own mechanics and a darker story. The pacing is deliberate, and some sections demand careful planning around weather and time of day. It feels tense and inventive, asking you to engage with the world both in game and outside.
