Play Centiped Online
You're stuck at the bottom blasting a relentless centipede while dodging spiders—those mushrooms it bounces off? Yeah, they'll screw you every time. The insect skittering sounds still make my shoulders tense up.

Centipede came out in 1980 from Atari, and playing it on MAME now, it still feels like a product of its time. It's one of those early arcade games that didn't try to tell a story; it just dropped you into a field and said survive. The screen is packed with mushrooms from the start, and you know right away they're going to be a problem.
You control a small bug blaster at the bottom of the screen, moving it left and right to shoot segments of the centipede as it weaves through the mushroom forest. Your main goal is to destroy the entire centipede before it reaches the bottom, while also avoiding spiders, fleas, and scorpions that add to the chaos. The mushrooms act as both obstacles and strategic tools, since the centipede changes direction when it hits one, and you can blast them away to clear paths. The pacing is relentless; the screen gets more crowded, the insects move faster, and one mistake usually ends your game. It feels like a constant, tense battle against an onslaught that just won't quit.
