Chiller came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1986, published by American Game Cartridges, Inc. It was a port of an arcade light gun game by Exidy, and it stood out on the NES for its graphic horror content and use of the Zapper accessory. This was a time when light gun games were popular, but few went as far with their themes as this one did.
You use the NES Zapper to aim at and shoot various horror-themed targets that appear on screen, like skeletons, prisoners, and other macabre figures. The main objective is simply to hit everything that moves or is highlighted before time runs out; some stages even let you torture targets by shooting them repeatedly. The pacing is fast and unforgiving, with targets often appearing only briefly. It feels jarring and intense, a stark contrast to the more family friendly shooters available on the system at the time.
