Chuck Rock II: Son of Chuck came out in 1993 for the Sega Genesis, developed by Core Design. It was a time when platformers were everywhere, and this one followed up on the original with a similar mix of cartoonish style and straightforward action. You don't hear much about it now, but it had its place alongside other colorful side-scrollers of the era.

You control Chuck's son, Junior, who sets out to rescue his father from the clutches of the villainous Gary Gritter. The game plays out screen by screen, with Junior using his club to attack enemies and his belly to bounce across gaps or break certain obstacles. You explore prehistoric environments, from dense jungles to icy caves, solving simple puzzles and avoiding hazards like lava pits and falling rocks. The pacing is fairly brisk, though some sections can feel repetitive, and the difficulty is moderate with occasional spikes. It feels like a solid, uncomplicated platformer that doesn't take itself too seriously.
