Chuck Rock II is one of those weirdly charming Sega Master System platformers where you play as Chuck’s kid—basically a tiny caveman with a big club—smacking dinosaurs and jumping over lava pits. The sprites are chunky and colorful, and the whole thing feels like a Saturday morning cartoon gone prehistoric.
You start off rescuing your parents (classic caveman drama), swinging your club at anything that moves. The controls take a second to get used to—your jumps feel a little floaty, but once you adjust, it’s satisfying to bonk a pterodactyl mid-air. Some of the level designs are surprisingly creative, like the underground caves with those annoying bats that dive at you.
It’s not the hardest game out there, but there’s something oddly fun about the whole caveman-meets-dinosaurs vibe. Just don’t expect deep storytelling—you’re mostly here to whack things with a stick.
