Action-adventure game with RPG elements. Features three game modes: overland map, town navigation, and vertical combat. Includes real-time duels, three sword styles, and exploration with loot. Released in 1991 for Amiga.
Conan: The Cimmerian starts with a brutal gut-punch—your village gets raided, your wife’s murdered, and suddenly you’re a vengeance-fueled barbarian with a sword. Classic Conan, right? The game throws you into this grimy, low-fantasy world where you’ll skulk around towns, kick down doors for loot, and pick fights with anyone who looks at you wrong.
It’s got this weird mix of exploration and bare-knuckle (well, bare-sword) combat. You wander through towns in this stiff third-person view, talking to shady NPCs or barging into temples for quests. Then, when a fight starts, it shifts to this side-on duel where you just hack at each other until someone drops. No blocking, no fancy footwork—just raw aggression. At first, your swordplay’s basic, but if you track down a sword master (and survive long enough), you can learn deadlier styles.
Honestly, the combat’s janky by today’s standards, but there’s something weirdly satisfying about how straightforward it is. You either win or bleed out in the dirt. And hey, looting corpses never gets old.
