I picked up Crash Bandicoot 2 N-Tranced for the Game Boy Advance back in 2004, a time when handhelds were really hitting their stride with solid platformers. It was developed by Vicarious Visions and published by Universal Interactive, and it felt right at home on the GBA, offering that familiar Crash experience on the go without losing too much of the console charm.

You control Crash, and sometimes his sister Coco, as you run, jump, and spin through a series of linear but detailed stages. The main goal is to gather crystals and defeat bosses to stop the hypnosis plot by N. Tropy and N. Trance. Signature mechanics include breaking crates for extra lives and fruit, riding polar bears and jetboards in certain stages, and using Coco’s hoverboard for added mobility. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty can spike in later levels, demanding precise timing and quick reflexes. It feels satisfying to master the jumps and enemy patterns, making each completed stage a small victory.
