Play Crude Buster (Japan) Online
Take control of roughnecks, battle mutants, throw enemies into hazards, and clear chaotic side-scrolling stages in Crude Buster on Sega Genesis.
Crude Buster came out for the Sega Genesis in 1991, developed and published by Data East. It was one of those mid-lifecycle titles that didn't get a ton of attention, but it had a certain rough charm that stood out among the platform's more polished action games.
You control a pair of oil field roughnecks tasked with cleaning up a mutant infestation. The main goal is to fight through side-scrolling stages, destroying enemies and environmental objects. Two mechanics define the action: you can pick up nearly anything, including enemies, and throw them into hazards or other foes; you also have a screen-clearing bomb attack that uses limited pickups. The pacing is fast and chaotic, with enemies swarming from all directions. It feels messy and unpredictable, but there's a real thrill in grabbing a mutant and hurling it into an explosive barrel.
