You play as Hiro Miyamoto, wielding the powerful Daikatana sword across different time periods. Your main goal is to stop an evil rival from altering history, which involves navigating maze-like levels, solving simple environmental puzzles, and fighting enemies with both melee and projectile weapons. Two key mechanics stand out: you manage two AI companions who can use special abilities but often get stuck or killed, and you collect elemental orbs to power up your sword for different attacks. The pacing is uneven, with some sections dragging due to confusing level design or cheap enemy placements, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly. Playing it feels like wrestling with an ambitious but deeply flawed experiment that never quite finds its footing.
