Play Daikatana Online
Swing your sword in eight directions, chuck fireballs at monsters, and warp between time periods—this weird little GBC spin-off feels more like a Zelda brawler than its infamous PC cousin. Chunky sprites, hidden upgrades, and some seriously cryptic puzzles round out the package.

Oh man, Daikatana on Game Boy Color—what a weird little time capsule. After the PC version flopped hard, I didn’t expect much from this portable take, but surprise: it’s actually fun. You’re running around hacking up monsters with a sword, tossing fireballs, and hopping between time periods like some kind of pixelated sci-fi samurai. Feels more like a mashup of Zelda and an arcade brawler than anything resembling the original mess.
The sprites are chunky and colorful in that late-90s handheld way, and the controls? Surprisingly decent once you get used to swinging your blade in eight directions. There’s something oddly satisfying about finding hidden upgrades tucked behind destructible walls—though good luck figuring out some of the puzzles without a walkthrough. That time-travel gimmick gets wild fast (future levels have laser guns, past ones have… angry frogs?).
Look, it’s janky in places, but in that good way where you can tell the devs were just throwing every idea at the wall. If you dig weird retro experiments, this one’s a trip—literally.
