Game Overview

Death Duel came out on the Sega Genesis in 1992, published by RazorSoft. It was one of those early 90s titles that tried to blend different genres, a common experiment on the platform at the time. You play as a cyborg mercenary, dropped into a series of one-on-one combat scenarios against other heavily armed opponents.

Before each fight, you choose your loadout from weapons like missiles and grenades, then enter an arena where you must target specific weak points on your enemy while they take cover and return fire. Between duels, a first-person shooting gallery mode lets you earn credits for upgrades, breaking up the main action. The pace is methodical, almost tactical, and the difficulty can feel unforgiving if you don't learn enemy patterns. It feels like a tense, clunky puzzle dressed as combat.
