Defender 2 is one of those NES shooters that feels simple at first—just a ship, some aliens, and a planet to protect. But the controls take getting used to, especially the reverse thrust. You'll overshoot targets a lot early on.
The screen scrolls endlessly left or right, which means you're constantly juggling between chasing down invaders and rescuing stranded humans. Miss one, and suddenly the planet's population starts dropping fast. It's tense in a way most NES games aren't.
Visually, it's pretty barebones—just blocky sprites and a starfield—but the speed of the later waves makes up for it. Defender 2 isn't forgiving, but it's satisfying when you finally get into a rhythm.
